Mayor announces video contest to select Citizen of the Year

Minot Mayor Shaun Sipma is seeking public nominations to select a Citizen of the Year.

As part of the 2021 State of the City event, Sipma is encouraging residents to nominate someone they believe deserves consideration as Minot’s Citizen of the Year, and then create a short video to show why that person should be recognized.

“Our community is full of extraordinary people, and this is a great opportunity to share some of their stories,” Sipma said. “It could be a favorite teacher, or a member of your family who has inspired you. It could be your neighbor. It could be anybody, and that’s really the point of this contest. Everyone has a story to tell.”

The subject of the winning video will receive $1,000 courtesy of First International Bank & Trust to donate to their favorite Minot charity. The video creator will win $100 in Minot Chamber of Commerce bucks courtesy of Farmers Union Insurance.

The winning video will be part of the 2021 virtual State of the City event scheduled for Feb. 2. Videos should be between one minute and five minutes in length. Submissions are due by Dec. 23. Videos can be submitted to the City of Minot via a link on the City’s website at min-otnd.org/mayorschallenge.
