Larry Hampp, Minot Air Force Base, charged with breaking into ex-wife’s house, assaulting her

Larry Wayne Hampp, 30, Minot Air Force Base, is charged with breaking into his ex-wife’s house at Minot Air Force Base on Sunday and assaulting her and preventing her from making a 911 call.

He is charged in district court in Minot with Class B felony burglary committed at night, Class C felony interference with an emergency phone call, Class B misdemeanor domestic violence causing bodily injury, and Class B misdemeanor criminal mischief.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Hampp crawled through a window to gain access to the home at 2:13 a.m. He walked into a bedroom shirtless, found the woman with a friend and told her friend to leave. She told the friend it was OK for him to stay. Hampp then went to the children’s bedrooms and took the two boys out to his truck. The woman tried to call 911 but Hampp grabbed her phone and smashed it. He then grabbed her by the throat and pushed her to the ground. Hampp, who was drunk, then drove off with the two boys in the truck. The woman called authorities.

Minot Air Force Base Security Forces located Hampp at his residence on base. Hampp told police he took the kids because he had found the woman with another man and they did not need to be around that. He also claimed the woman had shoved him and hit him in the back of the head. He did not have visible injuries on him.

The smashed cell phone was valued at $699.99.
