Jay Carl, Minot, charged with striking girlfriend, girlfriend’s child, interfering with 911 call

Jay Carl, 30, Minot, is accused of striking his girlfriend’s 10-year-old daughter in the face and kicking his girlfriend in the leg during a domestic violence altercation on Saturday and of interfering when his girlfriend tried to make a 911 call. He also allegedly gave police a fake name.

Carl is charged in district court in Minot with Class C felony interference with an emergency phone call, two counts of Class B misdemeanor domestic violence causing bodily injury, and Class A misdemeanor providing false information to law enforcement.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Carl was trying to get into his girlfriend’s room and she did not want him in the apartment. He grabbed the woman by the arm and pulled her and slapped the woman’s daughter with an open palm near her ear. Carl’s girlfriend then called police and Carl grabbed the phone, pushed the woman and kicked her in the hip. The argument continued outside and Carl pushed both the woman and her child again.

Carl left and was later detained.
