Whitney Belgarde sentenced for simple assault

Whitney Candice Belgarde, 31, Minot, who was originally charged with Class C felony aggravated assault and accused of stabbing a man in the stomach with a small folding knife on Nov. 9, 2019, pleaded guilty on Wednesday in district court in Minot to a reduced charge of Class B misdemeanor simple assault.

Belgarde was sentenced to 30 days in jail, all suspended but the three days she already served, and 360 days unsupervised probation. She must pay $425 in court costs and restitution to be determined.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, the man was taken to Trinity Hospital to be treated for his injuries. The man told police that he had been visiting friends at a southwest Minot apartment. Belgarde apparently became angry and demanded that the man leave the apartment and stabbed him with the 3- to 4-inch blade.
