Richard Wray, Ruthville, sentenced to five days, two years supervised probation, for driving drunk, striking vehicle full of juveniles

Richard Morgan Wray, 35, Ruthville, was sentenced in North Central District Court to 360 days in jail, all suspended but five days, and two years of supervised probation for driving drunk, rear-ending a vehicle full of juveniles and injuring one of them, on Nov. 1, 2019.

Court records show that Wray was also ordered to pay $325 in court costs, to obtain a chemical dependency evaluation, and to participate in the 24/7 Sobriety program for the Class A misdemeanor aggravated reckless driving charge.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, one of the boys in the vehicle Wray hit had a bump on his head and was later diagnosed with a concussion. The juvenile driver of the vehicle had whiplash. The impact of the crash had pushed the juveniles’ vehicle forward through the intersection until it came to a complete stop on the other side of 46th Avenue along Highway 83 North and the Highway 83 Bypass. Police located Wray’s 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 with significant front end damage about 100 yards to the northeast in a field. Wray was located behind the wheel, semi-conscious. He smelled strongly of alcohol. Wray was taken to the hospital for treatment.
