Minot Chamber Chorale holds 1st poetry contest for ND high school students

It’s a first for the Minot Chamber Chorale – a poetry contest for North Dakota high school students being done as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for high school poets, and a way for us to make art and beauty out of this time,” said Emerson Eads, Minot Chamber Chorale artistic director.

Students, grades 9-12, are asked to submit poems written on the theme “Life & Love in the Time of Covid-19.” Entries must be submitted via e-mail by midnight on June 1 to minotchamberchorale@yahoo.com.

The author of the winning poem will receive a $150 prize. Eads will set the poem to music to premier in the Minot Chamber Chorale’s Fall 2020 concert.

The contest rules include:

– Poems may be of any style or genre and respond to the theme “Life & Love in the Time of Covid-19.”

– Poems must be no longer than 130 words.

– Author’s first and last names, current phone number, age, current grade in school, name of North Dakota high school where currently enrolled and profile picture should be included with the poem.

The winner will be announced on June 15 and be featured on the Minot Chamber Chorale website at minotchamberchorale.org/.

Poets must agree to release all publishing and recording rights to the Minot Chamber Chorale.

The winning poet will be invited to attend the premiere of the poem’s musical setting at the fall concert.
