Census Bureau releases 2019 population estimates
Minot’s latest population estimate is 47,382, according to new data released today by the U.S. Census Bureau.
The July 2019 estimate is the last before the official 2020 Census results are announced. The census is to continue until Oct. 31, and Minot city leaders are pushing for a full count, desiring to see the city reach the 50,000 population mark. The milestone would trigger opportunities for receiving direct federal funds and attract economic development.
Minot’s 2019 population estimate is down slightly from the estimate of 47,455 in July 2018. The city’s estimated population reached a decade high of 49,627 in 2015, up about 21% from the official 2010 Census of 40,888.
Bismarck’s population estimate is up slightly, from 73,229 in 2018 to 73,529 in 2019. Fargo’s estimate also is up from 124,091 in 2018 to 124,662 in 2019. Grand Forks saw a decline from 56,637 in 2018 to 55,839 in 2019.
Dickinson’s population estimate is up nearly 2%, from 22,696 in 2018 to 23,133, while Williston’s estimate is up 5.7%, from 27,455 in 2018 to 29,033 in 2019.
