Minot murder suspect captured

A man wanted in connection with a January shooting and murder in Minot has been captured. Minot Police say they were notified Friday afternoon that Donald Lee Cooper Jr. was apprehended in Milwaukee, Wis., by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Cooper was fleeing on foot from the scene of a fatal automobile accident in Milwaukee when he was caught and arrested. The accident occurred as Cooper was being pursued by U.S. Marshals. He ran a red light and crashed into a vehicle with two occupants.

Rob O’Connor, spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service in Milwaukee said, “One person was deceased on the scene and another in critical condition. My expectation is that he’ll face charges related to the accident.”

Cooper was wanted on four outstanding warrants related to the Jan. 12 shooting in Minot. Those charges are accomplice to murder – extreme indifference, attempted murder – intentional or knowing, reckless endangerment – extreme indifference, and terrorizing with a dangerous weapon.

Dominick Stephens, 29, was fatally shot in Minot during a car chase that ended when Stephens crashed his car in the front of the Minot State University Dome. A passenger in Stephen’s vehicle escaped serious injury. Cooper is the final suspect police were seeking in connection with the fatal shooting.
