Fire, explosion damage home at Valley Street

A home at 519 Valley Street was damaged by a fire and small explosion at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, according to a press release from the City of Minot.

All of the occupants of the home had gotten out of the building before the Minot Fire Department responded.

The home had been converted into three living units and firefighters saw smoke and fire coming from the lower level when they arrived. Firefighters entered the basement and put out the fire. They then ventilated the building and looked for signs of fire in other areas of the home. The Fire Department was still watching the scene as of early Wednesday afternoon.

The Minot Fire Department and North Dakota Fire Marshal’s Office investigated and determined the fire was caused by the improper disposal of smoking materials. The explosion was determined to have been caused by a small propane torch that ignited during the fire.
