Steven Maynard, Minot, charged with assaulting girlfriend, kicking in door to neighbors’ apartment

Steven Francis Maynard, 35, Minot, is accused of assaulting his girlfriend and then later kicking in the door to a northwest Minot apartment when he was looking for the girlfriend on Sunday evening.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, a neighbor had heard yelling coming from the hallway and, when he looked out, saw Maynard striking a woman. The neighbor’s girlfriend told him not to get involved in the incident. Sometime later, Maynard came back and banged on the neighbors’ door. Maynard demanded that they let him inside so he could see his girlfriend. The neighbors informed Maynard that his girlfriend was not there and Maynard then kicked in the door.

Maynard, who was drunk according to the affidavit, allegedly struck his girlfriend in the face while they were fighting. The woman got away and went to another neighbor’s apartment until police arrived.

Maynard is charged in district court in Minot with Class B felony burglary and Class B misdemeanor domestic violence causing bodily injury.

Maynard made an initial appearance in court on Monday before Judge Stacy Louser, who set bond at $10,000 cash or corporate surety and ordered Maynard to have no contact with the neighbors.

Maynard pleaded not guilty to the domestic violence charge and told the judge he also wants to plead not guilty to burglary.

A preliminary hearing on the felony burglary charge is scheduled for Jan. 9.
