ND congressional delegation: Hearings ‘political theater,’ ‘pointless,’ time to move forward

North Dakota’s congressional delegation issued statements on Wednesday on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence’s impeachment hearing.

“This is more political theater. We haven’t heard anything new” said Congressman Kelly Armstrong. “Today’s witnesses admitted that their testimony is based upon second, third and fourth hand information. It’s not evidence. It’s the game of telephone. But

apparently facts don’t matter. Evidence doesn’t matter. How can someone be a star witness when they didn’t actually witness anything?”

Armstrong is serving his first term representing the state of North Dakota in the U.S. House of Representatives. He sits on the House Judiciary Committee, the House Oversight and Reform Committee and the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis.

Sen. John Hoeven said, “The House Democrat’s impeachment process, including today’s hearing, has not followed precedent and has not provided the President with important due process rights. Also, we have the transcript of the call between President Trump and President Zelensky. President Trump said there was no quid pro quo and President Zelensky said he did not believe he was being pressured to do something in order to receive the military aid. Instead of focusing on impeachment, the House should be moving forward with important priorities like passing the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and funding our military.”

Sen. Kevin Cramer said,“These hearings are pointless. Today’s political theater in the House of Representatives is nothing more than an outward demonstration of their inward motivation to remove President Trump from office since the day he was elected. Democrats’ one-sided impeachment process is producing no persuasive substance; their only accomplishment is further dividing our country. It’s time for them to call it quits on this sham and to finally get to work on the important issues like passing USMCA, lowering prescription drug costs, and funding our nation’s military.”
