Velva gunshots result in two arrests

VELVA – Two people were arrested early Sunday morning following a report of gunshots in Velva.

Cura Pine, 35, Velva, was charged with discharging a firearm inside city limits, a misdemeanor B, and reckless endangerment, a C felony. Leonard Martin, 42, Velva, was charged with terrorizing, a C felony. Both are scheduled for initial appearances before Judge Michael Hurly in Towner today.

According to complaints and affidavits filed with the court, Pine told a McHenry County Sheriff’s deputy that Leonard had pulled a handgun on her and another person. A McHenry County Sheriff’s Department sergeant concluded Pine was near her vehicle when the shots had been fired. Eight 9 millimeter shell casings were adjacent to Pine’s vehicle and a 9mm Taurus was located inside the vehicle. The affidavit states Pine admitted to firing the gun off on a dare. No one was injured in the incident.
