The Minot Relay for Life will hold its community kickoff meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Theater Room at the Sleep Inn & Suites in Minot.

James Falcon, a committee member, said the meeting will give those interested a chance to learn more about how to organize a team for Relay for Life and fundraising.

A Relay for Life event is scheduled for June 12, 2020, in downtown Minot.

Falcon said the Minot Relay for Life organizers are considering having four smaller scale events instead of just one.

The organization has traditionally held its big Relay for Life race in June, with teams collecting pledges ahead of the race, but Falcon said holding more events would be a way to raise more money and enable more people to participate.

Some People tend to be on vacation or unavailable for other reasons during June.

Relay for Life raises money for the American Cancer Society. Money raised goes towards both national and local programs. According to the American Cancer Society website, there are more than 2,500 Relay for Life events held around the country to raise money. A Relay for Life fundraiser has been held in Minot since 1990.

Falcon said they hope to increase participation in Relay for Life and appreciate everyone who does support the cause.
