Vern Sherven, 88, of New Town killed on Tuesday afternoon when his International Harvester truck was rear-ended by a Kenworth semi-truck three miles north and one mile east of Keene, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The driver of the semi, John E. Augsten, 58, of Griffin, Ga., was not injured.

According to the Highway Patrol, both the 1928 International Harvester truck and the Kenworth were traveling east on Highway 23. The semi struck the International Harvester from behind and the International Harvester spun into the west bound lane/north shoulder and came to a rest facing southeast. The Kenworth continued east while coming to a stop on the south shoulder.

Sherven was taken to the McKenzie County Hospital in Watford City, where he died.

The Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident, which happened at 2:49 p.m. Tuesday.
