State encourages residents to log environmental activities

BISMARCK — North Dakotans are encouraged to log their September activities that reduce waste and save energy as part of the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality’s new North Dakota Stewards Initiative.

“North Dakotans are proud of their clean air and water, pristine lands and wide-open spaces,” said initiative coordinator Angela Seligman. “As stewards of North Dakota’s environment, we all can have a role in keeping our legendary state as clean as possible.”

To get involved, visit https://deq.nd.gov/NDStewards/. Participants can download a daily eco log to help track savings throughout the month. At the end of the month, those savings can be entered on the website.

Participants can include activities such as walking instead of driving, recycling or composting instead of throwing waste in the trash, using reusable bags instead of paper or plastic bags and carpooling.

At the end of the month, the NDDEQ will calculate how these activities helped save energy and money, how much waste was kept out of landfills and how much vehicle emissions were reduced.
