Andrew Kopa, Minot, sentenced to two years in prison for unauthorized use of a credit card

Andrew Frank Kopa, 30, Minot, was sentenced on Friday to five years in prison, with a requirement that he serve two years, and three years of supervised probation, for trying to use someone else’s credit account to buy computers and cell phones from Walmart in December.

Kopa pleaded guilty to two counts of Class C felony unauthorized use of credit. Three other Class C felonies were dismissed.

Judge Richard Hagar also gave Kopa deferred sentences on Class A misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia charges.

Five other misdemeanor charges against Kopa in that case were dismissed, including carrying a concealed weapon, theft, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and criminal mischief.

All of the sentences are concurrent.

Kopa will receive credit for 38 days already served in the Ward County Jail.

He was also ordered to pay court costs. Restitution is reserved for 90 days.
