Brine spills occurred in Bottineau and McKenzie counties in recent days, according to a news release.

The North Dakota Oil and Gas Division was notified of a release occurring on Tuesday at the Fossum B 2R Water Injection Plant, about four miles northwest of Maxbass in Bottineau County. Scout Energy Partners reported Tuesday that 33,600 gallons of brine were released due to a valve/piping connection leak. Clean up is under way.

Missouri Basin Well Service Inc. reported Wednesday that 143,094 gallons of brine were released due to a fire caused by a lightning strike at the Hydro Clear SWD 1, located about 16 miles northeast of Alexander in McKenzie County. Cleanup will begin once all hot spots are eliminated.

ND Oil and Gas inspectors have been to both locations and will monitor cleanup progress.
