YWCA holds second Over the Edge event

After a successful inaugural event last August, the YWCA in Minot is excited to partner with the Parker Center again for Over the Edge 2019.

The event provides an opportunity for members of the public to rappel down the eight story Parker Center, located in downtown Minot, to help raise money to support the region’s only women’s and children’s homeless shelter.

Over the Edge 2019 will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, and run throughout the day.

Registration for Edgers is officially open. To secure a spot to rappel, each participating “Edger” will need to raise a minimum of $1,000 for a chance to go “Over the Edge.” Potential participants should visit ywcaminot.org to reserve their spot and create a personal fundraising page that enables friends, family and colleagues to donate funds toward their rappelling adventure.

The cost is only $50 to get signed up and that deposit counts toward the participant’s fundraising goal. Edgers will be provided with fundraising support throughout the process as well.

“Every day, the women and children in our shelter are conquering their fears and taking tangible steps towards breaking the cycle of homelessness in their lives. We’re challenging the community to conquer their own fears and rappel eight stories for hope – hope for the clients we serve and hope for the end of homelessness in our area,” said Ashley Boyd, YWCA Executive Director.

There is no experience necessary for Edgers to participate. Training will be provided by experienced Over the Edge staff and the safety of all participants is the top priority. Participants must be 16 or older and hit their $1,000 fundraising goal in order to go Over the Edge at the Parker Center on Aug. 17.

The YWCA Minot has exclusive rights to stage Over the Edge events in the Minot area.

“Last year was an incredible experience for our edgers and sponsors. We love that our event struck a chord with the community and are thrilled to be able to bring it back for 2019,” explained Boyd.

Sponsorship and promotional opportunities are available for businesses and individuals who wish to help the YWCA Minot reach their fundraising goal and expand their mission of empowering women in this region.
