Wyatt Knutson, Minot, charged with 2017 storage unit burglary
Wyatt Tyler Thomas Knutson, 30, Minot, is accused of burglarizing a storage unit in December 2017.
He is charged with Class C felony burglary in district court in Minot.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, a deputy saw a vehicle registered to Knutson fleeing the area after the sheriff’s office received a report of a burglary at the storage units east of Minot. Four storage units had been entered and some personal property was strewn around. There was a set of bolt cutters found outside one of the storage units.
Knutson reported his vehicle stolen the following day and denied knowing anything about the storage unit burglaries.
A deputy swabbed the bolt cutter and sent it off the North Dakota State Crime Laboratory for analysis. A report turned up a possible match with Knutson, whose profile was already in the system. The state obtained a search warrant for Knutson’s DNA. In February, authorities received a supplemental DNA report which reported that Knutson could not be excluded as a suspect based on the DNA sample.
A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for June 20 before Judge Doug Mattson.
