Rosa Winanz sentenced to six months for breaking fellow inmate’s nose

Rosa Maria Winanz, 29, Mandaree, will serve six months in prison for punching a woman in the face and breaking her nose on April 19 at the Ward County Jail.

North Central District Court Judge Todd Cresap accepted a plea deal for Winanz on Monday that Judge Doug Mattson had rejected last week.

Under the terms of the plea deal, Winanz pleaded guilty to one count of Class C felony aggravated assault. The state dropped a second Class B misdemeanor simple assault charge. Winanz had also been accused of punching another woman in the face at the jail without provocation.

She was sentenced to a total of three years, with all suspended but six months, and three years of supervised probation.

Restitution in the case is reserved for 90 days.

Winanz must also pay $1,100 in court costs.

The six month sentence will run concurrently with sentences in two other cases. The state revoked her probation in other cases.

Winanz will receive credit for 53 days already served in jail.
