Officers receive awards for emergency response

Three area law officers and a Minot Air Force Base personnel member were recognized with the North Dakota Highway Patrol Colonel’s Award of Excellence in saving a life last November.

Highway Patrol Trooper Ethan Rostvedt, Surrey Police Officer Connor Kircher, Ward County Deputy Ryan Summers and Air Force Master Sgt. William Wages III received the award at a ceremony May 17. Summers also was recognized at the Ward County Commission meeting Tuesday.

According to an account of the incident, Law enforcement received a call Nov. 27 regarding a man in distress at a gas station between Minot and Surrey. Wages began CPR and was joined by Rostvedt and Summers. Summers noticed heroin in the person’s vehicle and identified the distress as an overdose. Narcan, an overdose antidote, was administered. Kircher, who also responded, provided a second dose before the ambulance arrived.
