Flood protection project to cause temporary road impacts
As work continues on Phases MI-2 and MI-3 of the Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection Project, a major roadway impact will be occurring next week.
On Tuesday, traffic will be reduced from four lanes to two, one north bound and the other south bound, along 16th Street Southwest from just south of Forest Road to Fifth Avenue Southwest. Additionally, Seventh Avenue Southwest from 16th Street Southwest to 17th Street Southwest will be closed.
Utility relocations to accommodate the new flood control features will be replaced within the existing 16th Street roadway corridor. In order to accommodate the replacements of water, sewer and franchise utilities, this segment of roadway will be channelized to two-lane traffic.
The roadway is expected to be channelized until work is completed, likely by the end of the construction season, weather permitting.
For safety, motorists are reminded to be vigilant near the construction zone.
