Stacy Pederson, Minot, sentenced for assaulting a police officer
Stacy Ann Pederson, 56, Minot, was sentenced on Thursday to a year in jail, all suspended but the 30 days she has already served, and three years of supervised probation for kicking and threatening officers when she was arrested on Sept. 6.
Judge Gary Lee also ordered Pederson to obtain a chemical dependency evaluation, to pay $1,100 in court costs, and to write a letter of apology to the officer she assaulted. If she successfully completes probation, the Class C felony simple assault on a police officer charge will be reduced to a Class A misdemeanor.
The state dropped a Class C felony charge of resisting arrest under the terms of the plea deal.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Pederson had been blowing her horn and yelling at another woman in a trailer park on Sept. 6. Officer Jay Bloyer approached the vehicle and could smell alcohol when Pederson rolled down the window. Pederson stepped out of the vehicle. She had a large bulge in her pocket that he was afraid could be a weapon. He patted her down and she objected verbally and physically. Pederson swung her elbow toward Bloyer, swung her arms with clenched fists to try to punch the officer and kicked him several times in the shins and upper thighs. She was eventually subdued and handcuffed. Pederson also yelled threats at the officers.
Pederson pleaded guilty to Class B misdemeanor actual physical control of a vehicle while intoxicated in Minot Municipal Court on March 5. The charge was connected to the same incident. Pederson was fined $525, ordered to obtain a chemical dependency evaluation and to attend a victim impact panel.
Pederson told Lee on Thursday that she has also been charged with driving with a suspended driver’s license in city court in Burlington.
