Robert Roed received the Oath of Office for the position of Ward County sheriff from Judge Todd Cresap late Monday afternoon. Roed officially began his duties at midnight Monday. The former captain replaces Bob Barnard whom he defeated in the general election last November.

Roed issued promotions to two sheriff’s officers Monday. Jason Kraft, a former lieutenant, was promoted to captain. Dale Clemens was promoted to lieutenant. He formerly held the rank of sergeant.

Roed was promoted to patrol deputy in 1992, to sergeant in 2000, lieutenant in 2003 and captain in 2015.

During his law enforcement career Roed has been involved in nearly all aspects of the sheriff’s office, including general training, weapons training and active shooter training.

Kraft was first hired at the Ward County Jail in 2007 following service in the Army from 2002-2007. He has been involved in investigations for the department since 2013. His previous promotions were to sergeant in 2014 and lieutenant in 2017. Kraft’s duties include computer and phone forensics.

Clemens served in the Army and Army National Guard from 2004-2011. He was hired as a Ward County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy in 2011, began work as an investigator in 2016 and promoted to sergeant in 2017. He is involved in several aspects of training for fellow officers and is beginning his fifth year as a SWAT team member.
