Jasmine Massingill, Minot, charged with misuse of 911 call

Jasmine Marie Massingill, 28, Minot, is accused of telling a neighbor on Jan. 20 to call 911 because there was a fire when there actually was no fire.

Massingill is charged in district court in Minot with Class A misdemeanor misuse of a 911 call.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, police responded at 9 p.m. on Jan. 20 to a report that there was a fire across the street from 1601 Terrace Drive. Massingill, who appeared agitated, had told the neighbor to call 911 because there was a fire. The caller told police that Massingill was jumping and looking around the house and was running down the street with a dog. Police found Massingill and questioned her. Massingill acknowledged that she never saw a fire or flames.

Massingill told police she heard someone in the apartment above her yell fire and saw a red color from the roof of the apartment. She was afraid that children could have been in the apartment above her, so she ran outside and told the neighbor across the street to call 911. The officer noted that Massingill looked jittery and had a hard time describing events.

A fire truck was sent out to the scene of the call with sirens going in the belief that there was an active fire.
