Tyler Weltikol, Minot, sentenced for terrorizing

Tyler Duane Weltikol, 35, Minot, was sentenced to one year in jail, all suspended but the 180 days he has already served, and three years of supervised probation last week for waving a handgun around and making threats to a neighbor on Oct. 16, 2015.

Weltikol pleaded guilty to the Class C felony terrorizing charge on Nov. 29.

Court records show that Judge Todd Cresap also ordered Weltikol to surrender the gun to law enforcement, to have no contact with the victim, and to pay $525 in court costs.

Weltikol will also continue psychiatric treatment and following treatment recommendations made by doctors, according to the court record.

The felony offense will be deemed a Class A misdemeanor if Weltikol successfully completes probation.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Weltikol had been outside the neighbor’s apartment, waving the gun around and banging on the other man’s bedroom window. When the other man looked out the window, Weltikol stated he had “19 rounds” for the other man. The other man grabbed a gun and hid in his bathroom. He told police he was afraid for his life during the incident.

Weltikol also pleaded guilty to a Class A misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance on Nov. 29 and was given a deferred imposition of sentence and unsupervised probation for 360 days and was ordered to obtain a chemical dependency evaluation. He was also ordered to pay $325 in court costs on that charge.
