Terrance Johnson, Minot, charged with burglary, theft of property

Terrance Dale Johnson, 48, Minot, is charged with burglarizing Swartout Auto Salvage in Surrey on July 3 and of stealing a 2014 Honda Pioneer ATV from inside a locked shop building.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Johnson had a motor home parked on the north side of the property at the time. Johnson denied stealing the ATV when the business owner asked about it.

The stolen ATV was located a few days later at a Minot address. The property owner told authorities that Terrance Johnson had left the ATV in his yard.

On July 8, Terrance Johnson allegedly broke into the business office at the auto salvage business and called the business owner from the office phone. Authorities found that there was a broken window in the office and there was an old chair on the outside of the building that Johnson could have used to climb through the window into the office.

Johnson is charged with two counts of Class C felony burglary, one Class C felony count of theft, Class A misdemeanor criminal trespass, and Class B misdemeanor harassment.

Johnson is separately charged with Class C felony possession of a controlled substance, Class C felony possession of drug paraphernalia, Class A misdemeanor preventing arrest, and Class B misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, all charges relating to an incident on Tuesday.

According to the probable cause affidavit in that case, a Ward County sheriff’s deputy went to do a welfare check because a caller was concerned about children at the residence. Johnson had outstanding warrants and resisted arrest when the deputy tried to handcuff him. Johnson had suspected methamphetamine and marijuana along with needles, rolling papers, a spoon, pipes and unused baggies in a black bag on his person.

Johnson was taken to to the Trinity Hospital emergency room to be checked out before being taken to jail. He apologized to the deputy and said, “You know me. I always resist,” and laughed. He admitted to having used the meth and marijuana within the past hour.

Ward County Social Services was also contacted, according to the affidavit.

Johnson was scheduled to make an initial appearance in district court in Minot on Wednesday.
