More brine spills reported

The North Dakota Oil and Gas Division reports two brine spills occurred at two separate sites in the North Dakota oil field on Wednesday.

Berenergy Corporation said 900 barrels of brine were released due to a pump leak at the Martha Thompson saltwater disposal well, about two miles northeast of Glenburn. The brine was contained on-site and at the time of reporting all of the brine had been recovered.

Rimrock Oil and Gas Williston LLC said a tank leak caused 300 barrels of brine to be released at the Two Shields Butte oil and gas well, about 10 miles east of Mandaree. The brine was contained on-site and cleanup was under way. At the time of reporting, 150 barrels of brine had been recovered.

A state inspector has been to both locations and will monitor any addition remediation or cleanup.

Earlier this week the Oil and Gas Division reported three other separate incidents of brine releases in McKenzie and Mountrail counties in recent days. The product was contained on-site in all three incidents and state inspectors were monitoring any additional cleanup.
