Levi Ward, Minot, accused of impersonating a police officer

Levi James Ward, 37, Minot, is accused of impersonating a police officer in July.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Ward approached another man on the evening of July 10 at the Cenex North Broadway in Minot and insisted on seeing his ID. Ward went up to the man in his car, told him he ran his plate and it didn’t come back and he wanted to see his license. The other man refused. Ward then told him that he was with a special unit and they could call the Minot Police Department to check. The other man refused to show him his license unless Ward produced a badge. At one point the other man tried to get into his vehicle to leave, but Ward shut the door and wouldn’t let him leave. Police were called and Ward was located. Ward allegedly told police that he didn’t know why he claimed to be a police officer and it was a stupid idea.

The alleged victim did not want to press any other charges against Ward because he didn’t want to deal with the hassle of the court process, according to the affidavit.

Ward is charged with a Class A misdemeanor in district court in Minot.
