Minot man to go on trial for attempted murder

A 26-year-old Minot man will be tried sometime in January for attempted murder.

Steven Dolorenzo Stewart is accused in the Oct. 26, 2016 shooting at the Sports on Tap bar in Minot. He is charged with attempted murder, a Class A felony, and two counts of reckless endangerment, both Class C felonies.

According to court documents, Stewart shot a bystander, Deion Louden, in the lower abdomen and left wrist, and shot Newsy Davis, a man whom he had been involved in a disagreement with earlier that evening, in the leg. He is also accused of firing into a crowd of 50 to 75 people with an AK-47 rifle.

Stewart is also currently facing three Class B felony charges in North Central District Court in Minot for delivery of cocaine and methamphetamine, all dating back to February 2016.

He is also charged with three Class A misdemeanors dating back to July 2016, including fleeing from a police officer, lying to a police officer, and driving under suspension.

The lesser charges will be tried after the Class A felony attempted murder charge. Ward County Assistant State’s Attorney Marie Miller said she anticipates the trial taking up to two weeks given the number of witnesses. Defense attorney Andrew Schultz said it should take less time than that. The case is before Judge Todd Cresap.

Stewart allegedly fled following the shooting at Sports on Tap. He was captured in Las Vegas in March and returned to Minot.
