Airman dies from motorcycle crash injuries

A June 11 motorcycle accident near Lansford has claimed the life of a base airman.

Kayla Leach, 21, Minot Air Force Base, died following injuries sustained during the accident, according to an announcement by Minot AFB officials June 20. Leach, an airman first class, was assigned to the 91st Missile Maintenance Squadron at the base.

The Renville County Sheriff’s Office reported the crash occurred at 6:25 p.m. when Leach failed to negotiate a curve on Renville County Road 26, about seven miles west of Lansford and east of Lake Darling. The motorcycle ended up in the ditch, and Leach was ejected.

Several days earlier, on June 2, Torrell Carter, 27, with Minot AFB died as a result of injuries sustained in a car-motorcycle accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 83 and County Road 8 near Ruthville. Carter, driving a sport bike, was going south on Highway 83 when the driver of a car attempting to cross the highway stuck the motorcycle. A staff sergeant, Carter was assigned to the 5th Munitions Squadron.
