Influenza, RSV cases decreasing in ND
Influenza and RSV cases decreased in North Dakota while COVID-19 cases showed a slight increase, according to recent data released by the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services.
The current respiratory disease surveillance data for North Dakota is for the week ending Saturday, April 11.
The report provides a summary of respiratory disease activity in North Dakota, including influenza, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
Data is used for disease surveillance and monitoring of trends. All data is preliminary and subject to revision.
North Dakota reported 351 influenza and 134 RSV cases, reflecting a decrease from the prior week, and 50 COVID-19 cases, a slight increase from the prior week.
Since the beginning of the 2025-26 respiratory season on Aug. 1, North Dakota has reported 12,891 influenza cases, 5,326 COVID-19 cases and 1,751 RSV cases.
Vital records data show 26 influenza-related deaths, 41 COVID-19-related deaths and two RSV-related deaths reported during the season to date.
There were 11 influenza-related hospitalizations, a slight increase from the prior week, five COVID-19 hospitalizations, a decrease from the prior week, and 26 RSV hospitalizations, a slight decrease from the prior week.
Season-to-date hospitalization totals statewide include 949 influenza-related hospitalizations, 763 COVID-19-related hospitalizations and 258 RSV-related hospitalizations.
Outpatient surveillance data collected through the Influenza-Like Illness Network (ILINet) indicated a statewide influenza-like illness percentage of 1.45%, a slight decrease from the prior week.
Influenza test positivity was 13.21%, a decrease from the prior week. COVID-19 test positivity also decreased to 1.64%, while RSV test positivity increased to 11.36%.
State health officials also reported 26.85% of North Dakota residents ages 6 months and older have received an influenza vaccination this season, an increase from the prior week.
Based on current surveillance indicators, influenza activity in North Dakota was classified as moderate with no change from the prior week, COVID-19 activity low with no change from the prior week, and RSV activity moderate with an increase from the prior week statewide.
