Minot advocates recognized during LSSND centennial open house

Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota celebrated 100 years of service through a series of open houses across the state this month, including an event in Minot Nov. 5. CEO Jessica Thomasson presented “Dove Awards” to recognize individuals, churches, businesses and organizations who partner with LSSND to help the people in their communities. The dove is significant to LSSND’s history because it symbolizes God’s presence in the world as a source of peace, way-finding and guidance. Former Gov. Schafer to speak at Integrating Faith and Work conference

Former Gov Ed Schafer will be the keynote speaker at the Integrating Faith and Work conference Tuesday from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the Grand Hotel in Minot. The conference is sponsored by the Christian Business Men’s Connection. The event includes networking from noon-12:30 p.m., luncheon from 12:30-1 p.m. and the keynote address from 1-1:45 p.m. Registration is $20 per person. North Hill Baptist is now Journey

North Hill Baptist Church is now operating under the name Journey, said Pastor Daniel Andrus. The church meets in Suite 301 in the Mount Vernon Building at 900 North Broadway. Coffee is served at 10 a.m. Sundays, followed by the worship service at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays. The church also holds a Bible study at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evenings. Andrus said the church has been averaging about 20 members when everyone shows up. After it sold its church building on 21st Avenue, the congregation was looking for a new start. They love fresh fish! At least that’s how the story goes. Fishing off the coast of Japan has become more and more difficult because the waters are over-fished. Fishermen can find fish farther out to sea but it takes longer to get the fish to market so they no longer taste fresh. Father Vetter to be named Bishop of the Diocese of Helena, Mont.

Father Austin Vetter has been appointed by Pope Francis as the Bishop of the Diocese of Helena, the Catholic diocese for western Montana, according to a press release from the Bismarck Catholic Diocese Father Vetter was formerly the priest at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Minot. Prior to that, he served as parochial vicar at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit. He was a religion instructor at St. Mary’s Central High School in Bismarck from 1994-99.
