Fall mule deer survey begins in western ND

The state Game and Fish Department’s annual fall aerial mule deer survey is set to begin Monday, Oct. 13, in western North Dakota. Weather permitting, the survey takes about two weeks to complete. During the survey period, people could notice low-flying small airplanes over some parts of the badlands. Game and Fish biologists have completed aerial surveys of the same 24 badlands study areas since the 1950s. The survey is used to collect mule deer population data for monitoring demographic trends, such as buck-to-doe and fawn-to-doe ratios.

The Bible says: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked…,” (Jeremiah 17:9a KJV). This is further confirmed in Proverbs ...

CAP Cadets rally to raise support for veteran wreaths

The Cadets of the Magic City Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron are calling on the Minot community to help honor local heroes this holiday season through the Wreaths Across America initiative. Their mission is to ensure that a live Balsam wreath is placed on every veteran’s grave at Rosehill Memorial Park Cemetery. The youth-led campaign is a powerful act of remembrance and community service, according to the Magic City Civil Air Patrol. By sponsoring wreaths, businesses and individuals not only honor veterans but also invest in the development of Minot’s next generation of ...

North Dakota Outdoors: Know game’s identity before taking aim

If you’ve ever shot a hen mallard you thought was a gadwall on the wing or walked up to a downed pheasant only to discover it was a hen, you’re not alone. I’m not advocating these mishaps. It’s just the reality of what happens in the field. The burden is on a hunter to know the ...
