Fort Mandan brings history to life this summer

WASHBURN — Discover summer fun at Fort Mandan State Historic Site, Washburn, with free interactive learning programs for all ages. Programs are offered throughout the day. DUNSEITH – Performances from the second session at the International Music Camp will be held Saturday, June 27. Creative writing readings will start in the Burdick Center for the Performing Arts at 12:30 p.m.. The drumline exhibition will start in the Masonic Auditorium at 1 p.m., and the band concert will be at 1:30 p.m. Dr. Darrin Oeherking from the University of Saskatchewan will conduct the high school bands and Jason Rygg of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, will conduct the middle school bands. Edmund Hackett was still living in McHenry County in 1884. He had been a founder of Villard, which he named for a railroad president. He had come to the Mouse River Valley for the first time in the winter of 1881 and 1882 to survey a possible railroad route from Bismarck to the Turtle Mountains. The name proposed for this company was the Bismarck, Mouse River, Turtle Mountain & Manitoba Railroad. Tracks never were laid for it. DUNSEITH – The 70th season of the International Music Camp began Sunday, June 14, with its first session for middle school art, band and choir. On Saturday, June 20, the Middle School Art program will have an exhibition from 12:30-3 p.m. in the Masonic Auditorium.
