This Soldiers Cross in memory of Sgt. Keith L. Smette by the North Dakota Heroes Foundation was unveiled on Sunday during a ceremony in the Makoti Park with about 300 people attending. The unveiling was held in conjunction with the Makoti Threshing Show. Smette, a North Dakota National Guard sergeant with the 957th Engineer Company, 142nd Engineer Combat Battalion, died while serving his country in Fallujah, Iraq, on Jan. 24, 2004. Photo by Hunter L.
