Bringing exceptional musical talent since 1948, the International Artist Series of Minot looks back on the many great years of memorable performances as it gets ready to say goodbye.
The organization was founded in the fall of 1948 under the name Minot Community Concert Association. The first president was Dorothy Thomas, a local piano and vocal teacher. Jerry Spitzer, joined the board in the fall of 1959 and later his wife, Judy, also was on the board of directors, with both of them serving as president at different times.
In 1999, Matthew Davenport and a number of former employees, including Ellin and David Linde, formed “Live on Stage” in Nashville, Tennessee.
At this time the local organization’s name was changed from Minot Community Concert Association to International Artist Series of Minot. The name was changed to reflect the wide repertoire of artists who performed for the local community.
Each year the local organization would send representatives to Nashville to select from a showcase of artists. This allowed the organization to handpick talent suitable for the community in the Minot area. Some of the past performances included artists such as Hal Linden, Carpe Diem String Quartet and the Bachelors of Broadway, the later who performed the final show for the organization on April 1.
“We are so grateful for our supporters and business advertisers and wish to acknowledge that our mutually beneficial partnership with the MSU Music Department and the university has helped us all make truly beautiful music together,” John Jermiason, current International Artist Series president, said.
