MHS FBLA to hold winter clothes drive

The Minot High School Future Business Leaders of America will hold a winter clothing drive from Monday, Sept. 15, to Sunday, Sept. 21, to collect used or gently used items for low-income families in the community.

The drive is a new service project for the club, according to President Talio Griswold. She and Vice President Sage Carlson initiated the project to ensure at-risk students and families are prepared for the winter months.

“Sage and I were both thinking about how many people we see, especially at the elementary and middle schools, who only have a jacket in the wintertime. There’s a lot of low-income families, and a lot of these kids tend to freeze because of that, and we felt we had to do something about it. We wanted to make a change in our community and we thought this was the perfect idea to go with,” Griswold said.

The public is invited to donate hats, gloves, coats, scarfs, boots, face masks and other layering garments, which can be dropped off at a number of participating locations.

The drop-off locations include: Minot High School, Local 714, Margie’s Art Glass Studio, Taco Feliz, El Mercadito, Broadway Nails, The Spot, Gourmet Chef, Mowbray and Sons Plumbing and Heating and the Foundry. Inquiries for additional information regarding drop off times can be sent to the MHS FBLA adviser, Lisa Wolf, at: lisa.wolf@minot.k12.nd.us.

The clothing will be distributed during a shopping experience at Minot High School from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21. Griswold said invitations to the shopping experience will be distributed at the schools by principals, the FBLA adviser or other volunteers at the drop-off locations.

Starting at $2.99/week.
