Fort Stevenson hosting maple syrup events

GARRISON – Fort Stevenson State Park will be holding sugar maple tree tapping events on April 13.

Members of the Fort Stevenson State Park team will be demonstrating how to properly tap sugar maple trees to collect sap for making maple syrup. Visitors will also be given the history behind maple syrup and the equipment that is needed to make it.

The tree tapping demonstrations will take place at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.

From 11 a.m.-3 p.m., visitors will also have the opportunity to take a horse-drawn wagon ride. Activities for children and other maple syrup-related programs will be happening throughout the day. The group Moon Cats will be playing music at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Starting at 10 a.m., attendees can try pure maple syrup poured over pancakes as part of their pancake and sausage breakfast, while supplies last. Breakfast will be served by the Friends of Fort Stevenson.
