The Magic City Figure Skating Club (MCFSC) will present its annual ice show this weekend at the Maysa Arena’s Pepsi Rink.

This year’s show is “Once Upon a Castle,” a musical combination of classic princess characters on ice. “Once Upon a Castle” will feature skaters of all ages and skill levels as well as performances by the club’s three synchronized skating teams.

Shows begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

This year’s show will again feature the two-time U.S. National Junior Ice Dance champions, Leah Neset and Artem Markelov. Neset is originally from Minot and the pair trains in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Neset and Markelov were one of three U.S. Junior Ice Dance teams to represent Team USA at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Calgary, Alberta, where they finished fifth of 30 teams.

MCFSC skaters work all year to develop and advance their skills. The ice show is an opportunity for the community to share in their accomplishments.

Club members Harper Holt, 16, and Stella Miller, 14, said the great thing about this year’s show is it offers three Disney stories. Holt, who has been skating for about 11 years, portrays Anna from “Frozen.” Miller, who has been skating for four years, skates the part of Gaston from “Beauty and the Beast.” Skaters also will perform from “The Little Mermaid.”

“I really like competing and being in the ice show,” Miller said. With the close of the competition season, she and other club members have been working on the ice show for the past month. Holt said their practice schedules have picked up.

“I skate every day before school, but now we’ve been coming every day after school for group numbers,” said Holt, whose love for skating makes the extra time on the ice enjoyable.

“I like it because I get to spend time with my friends, and I like jumping and spinning – I just like everything about it,” she said.

Tickets to the shows can be purchased in advance from any ice show skater for $8. Tickets also will be available at the door for $10. Children ages 5 and younger will be admitted free.
