The Sunrise Rotary Club, together with the Minot Curling Club, is hosting the 6th Annual Winterfest Curling Bonspiel in Minot this weekend.

Winterfest 2022 is a two-day curling event for all skill levels and an opportunity to play competitively in a unique scoring format. Eighteen teams of four curlers took to the ice Friday evening, the first day of the bonspiel. Events begin today at 7 a.m., with awards presented this afternoon.

The first-place team will win $500 cash, a commemorative mug and name engraved on the traveling trophy.

The funds raised from this year’s event will support Sunrise Rotary Club efforts to provide scholarships for area youth, annual programs such as the Sunrise Rotary Fill the Bus, Rotary Planting Hope and building the Rotary Overlook Park on North Hill, which help support youth activities and quality of life in Minot.

“The Winterfest Curling Bonspiel is one of our club’s most successful events. Not only do we raise money that we donate back to our community. Each year our members volunteer and come together for a weekend of fun supporting the Minot Curling Club,” said Brendan Dick, Minot Sunrise Rotary president.

Minot Curling Club, which is hosting the bonspiel, is located in Commercial I on the North Dakota State Fairgrounds. The club has five sheets of ice and a clubhouse. Its curling league runs November through March each year.
