Nedrose School Board Minutes

June 17, 2020

5:30 P.M.

The Nedrose School Board Meeting

was called to order by board

president Jim Vannett. Members

present; Jim Vannett, Todd Awalt,

Robert Kraus, Holly Brekhus, and

Chris Sutton. Also present were

Matt Norby, Administrator, Chelsey

Raymond, High School Principal,

Alex Schmlatz, Elementary Princi-

pal, and Connie Marcellais, Bs. Mgr.

Motion made by Robert Kraus and

seconded by Chris Sutton to ap-

prove the agenda. Motion carried

unanimously. New nominations for

Cardinal Kudos: Doug Ames for his

hard work and excellence on the

grounds and busses. Vicky Sutter,

Melissa Eggen, Sara and Kevin

Streitz for taking over and ensuring

the Nedrose Students have a prom.

Motion made by Chris Sutton and

seconded by Todd Awalt to approve

the minutes of the May 13, 2020

regular meeting. Motion carried

unanimously. Motion made by Jim

Vannett and seconded by Robert

Kraus to approve the minutes of the

May 27, 2020 special board meet-

ing. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion made by Robert Kraus and

seconded by Jim Vannett to approve

the financial balances as of May 31,

2020: Checkbook, $1,905,039.67;

MM Savings, $1,226,177.90. Motion

carried unanimously. Motion made

by Chris Sutton and seconded by

Todd Awalt to approve the bills in

the amount of $245,793.57 and paid

using ck. no’s. 55944, 56001-56062.

Motion carried unanimously. Ele-

mentary and High School Principal’s

reports were reviewed. Motion made

by Holly Brekhus and seconded by

Jim Vannett to complete the second

and final reading of policies ACBB –

Significant Contagious Diseases &

DDAA – Family and Medical Leave

Act. Motion carried unanimously.

The policies are now complete and

will become the official policies of

the district. Board reviewed BA –

Recommended Board Ethics and

BABR – Board Ethics. No changes

were made. Mr. Norby gave an up-

date on tuition waivers and open en-

rollment. The Board presented a

contract proposal to the administra-

tion. The administration presented a

counter proposal to the board. Mo-

tion made by Jim Vannett and

seconded by Holly Brekhus to move

into executive session in compliance

with North Dakota Century Code,

Section 44-04-19.1 for the purpose

of administration contract negotia-

tions. Motion carried unanimously.

Board moved into executive session

at 6:45 p.m. Board ended executive

session at 7:07 p.m. The administra-

tion came back with a counter pro-

posal. Motion made by Jim Vannett

and seconded by Holly Brekhus to

move into executive session in com-

pliance with North Dakota Century

Code, Section 44-04-19.1 for the

purpose of administration contract

negotiations. Motion carried unani-

mously. Board moved into executive

session at 7:35 p.m. Board ended

executive session at 7:43 p.m. Mo-

tion made by Jim Vannett and

seconded by Holly Brekhus to add

one additional personal day for a to-

tal of three per year, accumulative to

no more than nine total in a current

year for the high school and ele-

mentary principal. Motion carried

unanimously. Motion made by Jim

Vannett and seconded by Chris Sut-

ton to approve up to $2,500 of

unused portion of Professional

Development be rolled over into the

next year with a maximum allocation

of $7,500 per year for high school

principal, elementary principal and

Superintendent with the stipulation

that amounts exceeding $7,500

must have prior board approval.

Motion carried unanimously. Motion

made by Jim Vannett and seconded

by Todd Awalt to increase the Ele-

mentary Principal Salary to $83,000,

High School Principal Salary in-

crease to $80,000 and the Superin-

tendent Salary increase to

$118,000. Motion carried unani-

mously. Motion made by Holly

Brekhus and seconded by Todd

Awalt to pay $2,500 annually toward

an Aflac policy of their choice for the

High School and Elementary Princi-

pals. Motion carried unanimously.

Motion made by Robert Kraus and

seconded by Chris Sutton to ap-

prove the Extra Curricular contract

of Brock Zietz as Assistant Boys

Basketball coach for the 2020-21

season. Motion carried unanimous-

ly. Motion made by Jim Vannett and

seconded by Todd Awalt to approve

the Extra Curricular contract of Matt

Norby as Varsity Boys Basketball

coach for the 2020-21 season. Mo-

tion carried unanimously. Motion

made by Robert Kraus and second-

ed by Todd Awalt to approve the Ex-

tra Curricular contract of Chelsey

Raymond as Volleyball coach for the

2020-21 season. Motion carried

unanimously. Motion made by Holly

Brekhus and seconded by Chris Sut-

ton to accept the canvass of the

election whereas Todd Awalt having

received the highest number of

votes is hereby declared elected

Member of Nedrose School Board

for the term of three years. Motion

carried unanimously.

Next scheduled board meeting will

be July 15, 2020 at 5:30 p.m.
