Take moment of silence on Pearl Harbor Day

Eighty-two years ago on Dec. 7, 1941, the “Day of Infamy,” as President Franklin D. Roosevelt called it, at 12:25 p.m. (Minot time) the first bombs dropped that would plunge the United States into World War II. On this day a Japanese armada of more than 100 planes and midget submarines struck the unsuspecting Americans at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Thank you, Ed Zilli, for your service to this country

The Minot community and this country lost one of the Greatest Generation with the passing on Thursday of Ed Zilli. Zilli, of Minot, who celebrated his 100th birthday on Feb. 8, was a decorated World War II veteran and among a diminishing number of World War II veterans at the time of his death. Schools, community teamwork bring many wins

It was a winning weekend for Minot sports teams last weekend. On the athletics side, Minot High’s football team won its first state title since 1980, becoming the 2023 NDHSAA Class AAA Football champions after defeating Fargo Shanley at the Dakota Bowl in Fargo. Senior running back Tyson Ruzicka was named the 2023 NDHSCA Division AAA Football Co-senior Athlete of the Year and head coach Chauncy Hendershot was named the Division AAA Football Coach of the Year. Story shows far-reaching impact of newspapers

When The Minot Daily News published a story earlier this week about folks at a visitor center in Pennsylvania hoping someone from North Dakota would stop by to be the first one from this state to sign the center’s register, it didn’t take long for the word to get out. Chuck Hubbell, an ambassador for the Laurel Highlands Visitor Center in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, had contacted this newspaper last Friday, saying no one from North Dakota had ever signed the guest register.
