Storm stirs dust in region

A dust storm triggered multiple hazard warnings by the National Weather Service on Thursday, May 14. Southwestern winds of 30 mph with gusts up to 54 mph caused a blowing dust warning which ended Thursday evening, but a high wind warning and red flag warning will remain in place until Friday, May 15, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., respectively. Victim of crash near Kensal identified

KENSAL — The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the victim of a one-vehicle crash that occurred Monday, May 11, near Kensal. Faith Eli, 22, Carrington, died in the crash. Eli was driving on a road west of Kensal when the vehicle left the road. The driver overcorrected and the vehicle rolled, according to the Highway Patrol.

America 250 art contest seeks youth entries

Elementary and high school students are invited to help celebrate America's 250th anniversary with participation in the National Endowment for the Humanities’ Freedom 250 American Heroes Student Art Contest. The competition is accepting artwork inspired by the 250 historic Americans to be honored with statues in the National Garden of American Heroes. Entrants must create an original 2D artwork and write short artist statement on the piece about why that hero was selected. The work should be submitted at freedom250.org. Rural Health Award recipients announced

GRAND FORKS – The annual Dakota Conference on Rural Health will recognize North Dakota rural health advocates for accomplishments during the Outstanding Rural Health Awards Banquet June 3 in Grand Forks. Among recipients are Tessa Strand, a registered nurse with McKenzie Health in Watford City, who will be recognized with he Emerging Rural Health Leader Award. Trinity Health Kenmare Hospital will be recognized with the Flex Quality Reporting Award. The R-COOL-Health Scrubs Camp of the Year Award will go to the Northeast Education Services Cooperative in Devils Lake.

Vision Zero announces awards at conference

BISMARCK – North Dakota recorded 85 traffic deaths in 2025, the lowest annual total in 29 years, according to Vision Zero, a statewide initiative dedicated to eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries.
