The Minot State volleyball team suffered its second loss in the past two days on Saturday, falling to Wayne State on the road in the form of a sweep.
The Wildcats (19-6, 11-5 NSIC) cruised to a 25-12 win over the Beavers (11-15, 4-12 NSIC) in the opening set thanks in part to Alyssa Ballenger. The sophomore outside hitter recorded five kills in a set where Wayne State led from start to finish.
The home team came out with even more intensity in the second set as Wayne State jumped out to a 13-3 lead. The Beavers never recovered as the Wildcats went on to claim a dominant 25-7 victory.
Minot State took its first lead of the match in the third set thanks to a service ace on the opening play by senior setter Kelsey Dewulf, but Wayne State quickly responded with a 5-0 run and never looked back.
The Wildcats went on to complete the sweep with a 25-15 victory. Junior middle hitter Nicole Wondrasek led the Beavers in kills with six, while Dewulf recorded a team-high 15 assists and two aces in the loss.
Next up on the schedule for Minot State is a home match against Bemidji State Friday at 6 p.m. at the Minot State Dome.
