Joyce Louise Thunshelle

Thunshelle, 93, Plaza,

died Sunday, December

10, 2017 in a Minot nurs-

ing home. Joyce was born

March 30, 1924 at Tagus,

the daughter of William

and Neva (Reed) Greenlee.

She was raised on the

family farm and attended

Tagus schools, graduating

from Tagus High School

in 1942. She then attend-

ed Minot State Teachers

College.

Joyce was united in

marriage to Edmen

Thunshelle on August 15,

1947. They made their

home on the Thunshelle

homestead in Osloe

Township of Mountrail

County, near Plaza, where

they farmed and raised

their family.

Joyce taught one year at

Baldy Country School

near their farm, at Blais-

dell for one year, and for

three years at Sand Coun-

try School, north of Van

Hook.

She raised and sold

chickens for many years

and was Edmen’s best

hand when it came to

farming, cooking and or-

ganizing. She enjoyed

baking, especially cakes,

and was proud to make

wedding cakes for all six

of her children. She also

made special occasion

cakes for her family and

the community.

Joyce loved to quilt and

created quilts for every

member of her family; she

led the quilting group at

First Lutheran Church for

many years. Joyce was

very active in the com-

munity. She served as a

4H Leader and was a

member of both Trinity

Lutheran and First Luth-

eran Churches; she was

also active in the Friendly

Homemakers, Plaza

Senior Citizens, Bangen

Moen American Legion

Auxiliary and TOPS.

Following Edmen’s death

on February 15, 2002 she

continued to make her

home on the family farm

and kept busy with com-

munity events. Joyce was

a proud wife, mother,

grandmother and great

grandmother. May God

her sons, Petter

Thunshelle (Laurel) of

Minot and Paul

Thunshelle (Patricia) of

Plaza; daughters, Nancy

Sandstrom (John) of Pla-

za, Marilyn Spletstoser

(Gary) of Center, Joy

Braaflat (Craig) of Plaza

and Jill Hieb of Minot; 16

grandchildren; 33

great-grandchildren;

brothers, Billy Greenlee of

Tagus and Robert Green-

lee of Fryburg and several

nieces, nephews and

cousins. She was preced-

ed in death by: her

parents; husband; grand-

son, John Allen

Sandstrom Jr.; son-in-law,

Dan Hieb; sister, Edith

Rock and brothers,

Charles, Kenneth and

Harry Greenlee.

Funeral: Saturday, Dec.

16, 2017 at 1:00pm in

First Lutheran Church,

Plaza.

Visitation: Friday, Dec.

15, 2017 from Noon –

5:00pm in Langhans Fun-

eral Home, Parshall.

Interment: Trinity

Cemetery, rural Plaza.
