Well pad fire in Mountrail County extinguished

NEW TOWN - Firefighters brought an oil well pad fire in Mountrail County under control early Saturday morning, according to the Williston Fire Department.

Mountrail County Emergency Management called in the Williston department at about 1 p.m. Friday for support for an active fire between New Town and Ross. The fire occurred at a well pad operated by Hess Corp., where eight storage tanks were involved, the department reported.

At about 10 p.m., firefighters began to perform overhaul of the site to ensure the fire was completely extinguished. Crews were able to fully extinguish the fire at 3:51 a.m.

The Williston Fire Department and Williams County/Williston Emergency Management provided support from the Hazardous Materials Response Team for air quality monitoring. The agencies worked through the night to assist with the mitigation efforts.

Hess will be conducting further mitigation and clean-up efforts. No injuries were reported from the incident.
