Crosby shooter identified

The Divide County Sheriff's Office has identified the man who held law enforcement at bay for more than eight hours Tuesday as Jeremy Kessler, 33, Crosby.

Law enforcement responded to a report of shots fired at a northwest Crosby residence at approximately 2:40 a.m. Tuesday. Multiple shots were fired from inside the residence while law enforcement was on scene. It is not clear if any of the shots were aimed at law enforcement officers.

Kessler emerged from the residence about 11 a.m. and was taken into custody. No one was injured during the standoff. The Minot SWAT and Negotiations Team were called in to assist the Divide County Sheriff's Office along with the U.S. Border Patrol, North Dakota Highway Patrol, Burke County Sheriff's Office, Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Williams County Sheriff's office.

It is not yet been disclosed why Kessler was shooting. No charges had been filed in the incident as of Wednesday afternoon.
