Dreams are being made in newly reconstructed downtown Minot.

Among the shop owners enjoying the new look of downtown is Miranda Nichols, who opened Nickel & Dodge in June.

“I love it, honestly,” Nichols said of being downtown. “I am a destination location so the construction doesn’t really affect me…But I’m really excited for when Broadway gets back open. I like all the events downtown, all the other downtown owners. It’s super fun just being downtown. It’s kind of like bringing Minot back to life.”

Nichols is a master esthetician and licensed cosmetic tattoo artist. She has been in the business for several years and has now received advanced training, so she decided to open a spa of her own. “Dodge” in the name of the business is a nod to Mathew Dodge, a graphic designer who Nichols says is a special person in her life and a “creative link” when it comes to branding and marketing.

People come to Nickel & Dodge for some of the many services available there, such as facials, brow design, lip and body waxing and for help with acne.

The spa occupies the main floor of the building and three treatment rooms have been set up.

“One is pretty-much dedicated to relaxing spa facials with all the jazzy facial massage, foot massage and hot and cold therapy,” Nichols said.

The other rooms are where customers go if they’ve come for treatments, such as to receive permanent makeup. One of the most common procedures – eye brow tattooing. Nichols says some women are so moved, almost relieved, when they receive perfect brows that will remain perfect.

“It’s really awesome,” she said of seeing her patients’ reaction to new brows. “If I could do it for free, I would,” she said.

All of the appointments for tattooing are made on the 15th of the month, Sept. 15 being the next opportunity. Nichols asks her customers to call after noon on the 15th and she will then book out appointments for the next two months only.

Regular business hours at Nickel & Dodge are Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. by appointment only, Monday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday 1 to 9 p.m., Wednesday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday 9 a.m to 7 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
