Man charged with arson, murder in Mandaree house fire death
MANDAREE, N.D. (AP) — Federal authorities have accused a man of deliberately setting a house fire that led to another person’s death on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.
The Bismarck Tribune reports Donavan White Owl is charged in U.S. District Court with arson and murder in the April death of Winnifred Smith.
Authorities discovered her body in a basement room in the house on April 4. An autopsy determined smoke inhalation to be the cause of death.
White Owl made an initial court appearance in Bismarck this week but didn’t immediately enter a plea. His attorney didn’t immediately respond to an Associated Press request for comment.
